Stranraer & Rhins of Galloway Agricultural Society Directors held a conference call this week and were unanimous in making the sad decision to cancel the 2021 Stranraer Show.
Show Chairman James Drennan said
“We appreciate that cancelling for a second year is very disappointing, but we feel it is the correct decision to make in the current circumstances. As organisers of the event our priority has to be the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone involved. We felt that continuing to plan for an event that would mean inviting a large gathering of people into the local community in just a few months time was not the right thing to do.
Families being able to meet and businesses being able to operate has to take precedence over holding events such as Stranraer Show and we would not want to find ourselves in a situation where we were at risk of jeopardising the return to some form of normality.
We will now turn our focus to making plans for the Stranraer Shows to come, ensuring we are ready to come back with a bang.
On behalf of the Society Directors and the Show Committee I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and understanding and our thoughts go out to everyone who has suffered loss and hardship during this most difficult year.”
